English-speaking therapist in Brussels for expats

Johanna Touzel — Systemic & Strategic Practitioner

When a situation stays stuck, doing more is often not the solution.

If you are looking for an English-speaking therapist in Brussels, you may be facing a situation that feels stuck — in your relationships, your work, or your personal life.

In an international environment like Brussels, these situations can become more complex, especially for expats navigating cultural, professional, or personal transitions.

When situations don’t change despite your efforts

You may have already tried to understand, to communicate, or to improve the situation.

And yet, nothing really shifts.

In many cases, doing more of the same can unintentionally keep the problem in place.

This is not a lack of effort or clarity.

It is often a question of how the situation is structured.

Therapy for expats in Brussels

II work with expats living in Brussels who are experiencing:

  • relationship difficulties

  • professional or workplace tensions

  • recurring emotional or relational patterns

  • situations that remain unresolved despite effort

  • periods of transition or instability

These situations are often influenced by the environment, the relationships involved, and deeper patterns that are not immediately visible.

A systemic and strategic approach

I am Johanna Touzel, a systemic and strategic practitioner based in Brussels, with a background of nearly 20 years working in international environments.

My work is based on systemic and strategic therapy.

Rather than focusing only on the individual, we look at how the situation is maintained:

  • through interactions

  • through repeated patterns

  • through implicit dynamics

This approach allows us to introduce precise shifts that can unlock the situation.

It also integrates a transgenerational perspective, when relevant, to identify patterns that may have been present for a long time.

A structured 3-session process

The work is designed as a short-term, structured process over three sessions:

  • Session 1 — Clarify the situation and identify what keeps it stuck

  • Session 2 — Systemic intervention (including constellations when relevant)

  • Session 3 — Integration after a period of 21 days

This format allows for focused and effective work, without unnecessary prolongation.

Why problems persist: a systemic perspective

When a situation repeats itself or remains unresolved, it is often not because you are doing something wrong.

In systemic work, we observe that:

  • attempts to fix the situation can sometimes reinforce it

  • certain roles become fixed within relationships

  • patterns established earlier in life can continue to operate unconsciously

  • During the second session, we may use systemic constellations to make these dynamics visible.

This involves working not only with the mind, but also with perception, the body, and emotional responses.

When these elements are brought into alignment, the system can reorganize — and new possibilities emerge.
